Four neglected dogs were rescued from property in Horry County, South Carolina, and the bodies of five deceased dogs were also discovered. According to the Horry County Police Department, 25-year-old Henry Mumford is facing multiple charges as a result the grim discovery.
The authorities outlined Mumford’s charges, writing:
Henry Mumford, 25, of Longs, faces nine (9) counts of felony ill treatment of animals, one (1) count of possession of stolen property more than $2,000, and one (1) count of possession of a stolen firearm.
On Monday, HCPD Environmental Unit served a search warrant at a home on Kids Lane in Longs.
Four emaciated and severely dehydrated dogs were found on site, without access to food, water, or adequate shelter.
The surviving dogs were immediately transferred to the Horry County Animal Care Center where they are said to be looking at a “long road to recovery.”
The department said:
The dogs seized in this case are not available for adoption or rescue at this time. (If you have it in your heart to adopt, we ask that you please consider one of our current adoptables instead.)
Thanking the Humane Society of the United States for offering to cover costs associated with necropsies and the investigation:
The Humane Society of the United States has generously offered to cover the cost of bone scans for the dogs who were found deceased. These scans will provide further evidence to support the animal cruelty case in court.

Deputies also found stolen property at Mumford’s residence; a secondary search warrant was secured for that portion of the investigation.
