A total of 83 dogs have been removed from deplorable conditions at three locations operated by a Utah breeder of golden retrievers. According to the Utah County Sheriff’s Office, the dogs were bred by a couple operating the Maple Mountain English Creams business.
Matthew and Staci Baker are identified as the people breeding purebred “English creams and Field Goldents,” reports KJZZ News. Conditions found by officials were far from the picturesque images shared on the breeder’s website.
Kierstan Munford, director of the South Utah Valley Animal Shelter, commented on the sad situation, telling the news agency:
“It’s very heartbreaking. It’s hard on the staff to see all these animals coming in from a situation that they know is terrible.”
The couple was not properly licensed for their breeding operation and they could face felony charges in addition to “dozens” of misdemeanor animal cruelty charges. Matthew Baker was found to have a warrant out for his arrest on unrelated charges. The dogs, many who were very sick, were taken to the South Utah Valley Animal Shelter for care.
