A heartwarming story emerged from Omaha on Monday, but with a disturbing twist. A missing dog was found alive after having been discovered wrapped in duct tape and thrown in a dumpster. Thankfully, the canine’s ordeal has a happy ending, but the Nebraska Humane Society (NHS) is searching for answers.
A Muffled Cry for Help
Employees at an Omaha accounting firm became heroes by accident. On April 14th, they heard noises coming from a dumpster behind their building. Unnerved by the commotion, they waited until the next day to investigate. Expecting to find a stray animal, they were met with a horrifying sight: a small dog completely wrapped in duct tape.
Bound and Determined to Survive
The NHS reports that the dog had his entire head covered in duct tape. Additionally, his legs were bound together, and his tail was also taped. Despite this ordeal, the pup displayed incredible resilience. Luckily, the quick action of the accounting firm staff and the NHS ensured his safe arrival at the shelter.
About a half hour after Animal Control responded to the call, a trash truck drove up and emptied the dumpster. HUGE shoutout to Kevin W and Judy O of Sweet and Associates for saving Leo’s life!
A Second Chance
We had to shave him to remove all the debris, perked up and was wagging his tail upon regaining consciousness. A microchip scan revealed a registered owner who had reported the dog missing just days earlier.

Seeking Answers
Leo’s owner, Erin Dillon-Pasillas, said she and her family spent the weekend desperately searching for their dog. She went to the humane society Monday to see if he was there. Fortunately, the microchip was able to help reunite the family.
While the reunion between the owner, Dillon-Pasillas and her furry friend is a cause for celebration, the NHS is determined to find the culprit behind this act of cruelty.
We can’t imagine doing that to another living being.
NHS
The NHS is urging anyone with information to come forward. They are hopeful that a witness or someone with knowledge of the incident will help bring the perpetrator to justice.
The dumpsters behind the business, Sweet and Associates, are isolated, and there are no cameras in the vicinity. Anyone with information on this case is urged to contact Animal Control at 402-444-7800 ext 1.
NHS is offering a $1000 reward for information leading to an arrest.
This story serves as a stark reminder of the importance of microchipping your pets. It also highlights the vital role shelters play in rescuing animals in need.
