Seventeen-year-old Chloe Adams has been winning the hearts of social media after saving herself and her dog from the disastrous Kentucky flooding on Thursday. The photo of the young woman hugging her dog sitting on top of a roof surrounded by water, had been posted on Facebook by her father.
Hearts sank until notice was posted that the two had been rescued and were safe.
According to WwatvNews, Chloe had been home alone with her dog Sandy when the home was suddenly inundated with water as it started erupting through the kitchen tiles and encircling the house. Somehow, even after telling media she had a “full blown panic attack,” Chloe’s quick thinking kicked in.
Chloe knew she needed to get out of the home to survive and momentarily put Sandy in the water to see if she could swim, but she was not able; Chloe quickly scooped her up, waded through the rising flood waters in her home and searched to find something that could float. That’s when she found a plastic container in the closet, placed it on top of a sofa cushion and pushed her dog to safety.
The teen, who she has had Sandy since she was a puppy was able to pull it along to a nearby roof where they waited for hours until help arrived.
On Friday, her dad shared the post about her calling Chloe a hero.

“My daughter is safe and whole tonight. She saved her dog by putting her in a container that would float and then swam with her to a neighboring rooftop. She waited hours until she could be rescued. She is a hero. I love you Chloe. You are simply amazing. Thank you Larry; words are not enough. We lost everything today…everything except what matters most.”

At least 25 people died in Thursday’s heavy rains and widespread flooding. Many others lost everything they owned.
