Photographs of an abandoned husky chained up in the woods with severe injuries near Ironton, Missouri, went viral on social media this week. A number of versions about the situation had been circulating including one story claiming the dog had been euthanized.
Saint Francois County Sheriff’s Department deputies were notified that a Good Samaritan had located the ailing dog at the Council Bluff’s Boat Dock. Stray Rescue of St. Louis were notified, and two volunteers immediately were dispatched to rescue the dog.
The husky, named Songaa, arrived at the rescue organization Thursday evening and was immediately examined by veterinarians. His journey is just beginning, and his prognosis is still not known.
Here is just a small glimpse into Songaa’s (the injured husky) medical examination. We’re waiting on the results of a skin biopsy and will know more soon. The tumors are so horrible, he can’t even open his mouth very wide, making eating and drinking very difficult for him.
We gave him a warm, sudsy bath and he looooooves belly rubs. When the biopsy comes back, we’ll let everyone know. It’s hard to fathom what this poor baby has been through. Thankful he is here with us, getting so much love no matter how long his life may be.

Three other dogs who lived in the home, in addition to the horribly injured husky, are all at Stray Rescue now. They will be receiving the love and care they need and will be looking for new homes soon where they will be loved, adored, and respected as all souls should.
Three suspects are presently being held pending charges for animal cruelty. Their names have not been released by authorities.
