The Humane Society of Marlboro County in Bennettsville, South Carolina received a “generous donation” from the estate of Walker Jennings Griggs. On Thursday, Griggs’ niece visited the shelter to present the donation “from her beloved Uncle” who passed away on August 15, 2021 at the age of 95.
Mr. Griggs lived an extraordinary life and loved sharing stories, showing the kindness he bestowed on everyone he met. He was an animal lover, and the shelter is honored to have been remembered by such a kind man.
The blessing comes at a critical time for the animals at our shelter – we, along with all shelters, are struggling through the busiest time we’ve had in years. This generous gift will allow us to continue on in our mission to serve the animals in our community; the ones who are homeless, sick, abused and abandoned. They need us.
Thank you, Uncle Jennings. We wish we could hug your neck.
And big hugs to Wanda who loved him like a daughter and is carrying out his final wishes.

As an aside, we all wish we could have met Mr. Griggs, but we are grateful for the wonderful legacy he has bestowed upon those who cannot speak for themselves.
Rest in peace Mr. Griggs.
