At the Chicago Animal Care & Control, an eight-year-old dog that survived almost impossible odds is now scheduled to be euthanized. Topper came into the shelter labeled a stray where he had been found on the top of a building after an incredibly tragic chain of events. Poor Topper lost three family member to a horrible crime, and his fourth family member took his own life.
Topper’s rescue gained national attention as he had to be lifted to safety from the roof of a dilapidated house with a crane; a once loyal dog haunted by the violent deaths of the only humans he ever knew. Only Topper survived; found perched atop of roof of that house, guarding its tortured ghosts and crumbling walls.
He lost his whole world in the blink of an eye. He is sweet, loving and gentle. CACC is overflowing and needs more adopters and fosters to come forward and to rescue more lives.
TOPPER has now been at the shelter for six months and has learned what love is from the staff. He loves to cuddle, but he has now become protective of his home and doesn’t want to leave. Authorities at the shelter say he has been there too long and has become too attached to his caretaker – volunteer and will need to be the only dog in the home if he is to be adopted.
TOPPER is friendly, gentle, smart and curious, loves agility and food puzzles. He has a trot and a skip and a bounce that burst with excitement and joy! As for his heart, well, it is swelling with this newfound reality called Love, only he needs a HOME where it will blossom fully.
Please share this dog’s plight with approved rescue organizations, friends, family and social media contacts. Sharing saves lives.
