In St. Louis, the search continues for an endangered dog missing since Friday. The Otterhound was spotted in West County near Laude on Sunday.

According to APNews, Otterhounds are one of the rarest and nearly extinct breeds of dogs, and it is estimated there are less than 600 left in the world. Tito recently moved to St. Louis from Ohio with his family and escaped from his new home within 15 minutes of arriving.

The AKC Champion Otterhound weighs more than 100 pounds and stands 30 inches tall. The dogs are best known for their sense of smell and are capable of tracking down animals through water for more than 72 hours. They are exceptional swimmers, preferring colder waters with their double coats of fur and webbed feet.

Otterhounds are able to travel over 10 miles a day and could have escaped from his home after picking up a scent.

Tito’s owners have been posting flyers and continue searching across the St. Louis area If spotted, please text his owners as to the dog’s location at 859.475.8418 and do not try to capture him as he might become frightened and run away.

Please share Tito’s plight and help to bring him home.
